Childhood obesity is a very important problem in America and throughout the world today. We have all heard the report about the rising numbers of youth that are overweight. Especially in youth, the dangers that get with being overweight are alarming. Here are some easy information to try that will aid you and your overweight children.

 

In many cases a contributing factor to being overweight is that the child or teenager is too sedentary. They do not get enough exercise. Today in our society it is too easy for children to spend their time lying on a couch or on their bed watching television. Several health professionals think that any more than 1.5 hour of time spent watching television per day for children is not good. Television does not require any interaction. Yes it is entertaining, but that's where it stops. It does not allow a person to exercise the mind or the body. So, the first thing is to get your kids up off the couch and not watch any more than 1 1/2 hours of television per day.

 

The computer and computer games are another problem that can contribute to childhood obesity. For the most part these can be done sitting where there is no physical activity taking place. Too much time in front of a computer can also lead to eye strain and other problems. The exception to this is the new technology presented with the Nintendo Wii game system. This is a computer game that requires a certain amount of physical activity with the controllers. But in general, it is a good suggestion to get your kids off their chair and out from in front of their computer and computer games.

 

Why do kids engage in these two activities? Just ask them and they will tell you. They will say they are bored and have nothing to perform.

 

The reply is to help your kids find a fun recent interest that will need them to become physical active. Hobbies can be very advantageous and can stimulate and challenge the mind. They can be medical and help relieve tension. They can also help a person become more fit and lose weight, especially sport hobbies.

 

What we are really talking about here are sport hobbies. These will get your kids out of the house, they can be a way to make new friends and help their self esteem.

 

If your child has not exercised much it is always a great thought to visit with a medical professional first and get their advice. Everyone's situation is different and each hobby will challenge a person's body in distinctive ways. Go see what the Dr. says first before trying anything new.

 

Tennis can be a good hobby to try. It can be played alone against a flat wall or with one or three people.

 

Golf involves walking and swinging a club and can be fun for teen as they watch that tiny ball fly excellent distances. Bowling can be fun and physically intriguing at the same time.

 

Weight lifting, aerobic activities or even dance can all be outstanding sport hobbies to consider.

 

Swimming or pool category exercises can be great fun.

 

Cycling is probably one of the best forms of exercise and can be a great new hobby for a child. For the time spend riding a bicycle actually burns just about more calories than any other form of exercise.
